Need a hand with YoMatrix? Email support@yomatrix.app and we'll get back to you.
For instant answers, open YoMatrix and ask the built-in AI assistant — it can explain how any feature works, recommend the right tool for what you're trying to do, and walk you straight to it.
Getting started
- Download & install. YoMatrix is coming to the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad — install it like any other app, then open it to begin.
- Pick a username. YoMatrix needs no phone number and no email. You choose a globally-unique
@username, and your encryption keys are generated on your device. - Add contacts. Scan a friend's QR code in person for the strongest verification, or add them by their username. You can confirm a chat is secure by comparing the 25-digit safety number.
- Permissions. Allow notifications so you can be reached for new messages and calls, and grant camera/microphone access when you want to scan a code or place a call. You can change these any time in iOS Settings.
System requirements
iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later. A macOS app is on the way.
Free, Pro & subscriptions
- The messenger — chats, calls and the features on this site — is free.
- The built-in AI assistant is freemium: a free daily allowance, plus an optional Pro subscription for unlimited use and AI voice calls.
- Pro is an auto-renewable subscription handled by Apple's App Store. Manage, change or cancel it any time under your name in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
- We never see your card details — Apple processes all payments and handles refund requests under its policies.
Troubleshooting
- Not getting message or call alerts. Make sure notifications are allowed for YoMatrix in iOS Settings, and that Focus / Do Not Disturb is not silencing them.
- A call won't connect or sounds rough. Calls connect device-to-device whenever the network allows and fall back to an encrypted relay otherwise; a restrictive network or weak signal can affect quality. Try Wi-Fi or moving to better coverage.
- “Safety number changed.” This appears when a contact reinstalls or switches devices. Re-verify by comparing the 25-digit safety number, ideally in person, before sending sensitive messages.
- Moving to a new iPhone. Because chats are end-to-end encrypted, set up a backup or device transfer before you wipe the old phone — without one, encrypted history cannot be recovered.
- The AI assistant hit its daily limit. The free allowance resets each day; Pro removes the limit and adds AI voice calls.
Privacy & security
Messages and calls are end-to-end encrypted, and the assistant runs on our own privately-owned servers — nothing goes to third-party AI services. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what does and doesn't leave your device.
Common questions
Is YoMatrix really end-to-end encrypted?
Yes. Messages and calls are encrypted on your device with Curve25519 and AES-256-GCM, and only the people in the conversation can decrypt them. Every message even uses a fresh ephemeral key, so each one is sealed on its own rather than under a single long-lived key.
Do you need my phone number?
No. You sign up with a username or by scanning a QR code — there's no phone number to share and no need to upload your contacts.
How are calls kept private?
Calls connect device-to-device wherever possible, so audio and video flow directly between phones rather than through a central server. On restrictive networks a call may relay through an encrypted server just to connect, but the media stays end-to-end encrypted the whole way.
What can the server actually see?
The server is a blind relay — it forwards encrypted data it can't read. Like every messenger, it needs minimal routing metadata (who's talking to whom, and when) to deliver your messages, but it never sees the contents of your messages or calls, and your keys never leave your device.
How much does it cost?
The messenger itself — chats, calls and all the features here — is free. The built-in AI assistant is freemium: a free daily allowance, plus an optional Pro tier for unlimited use and AI voice calls.
Which devices can I use it on?
iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later — coming soon to the App Store. A macOS app is in the works.
